Ingredients

Scale

Breadsticks

  • 1 cup (237 g) water, warmed (about 110°-115°F)
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup (75 g) extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 ½ cups (312.5 g) all-purpose flour

Topping

  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ cup (25 g) parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let the mixture rest for about 5 minutes, or until the yeast blooms and becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare oil mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together ⅓ cup olive oil, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, and kosher salt. Pour half of this mixture into the yeast mixture, reserving the other half for later use.
  3. Make the dough: Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the yeast and oil mixture, stirring until combined into a dough.
  4. Let dough rise: Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 450°F. Pour the remaining oil mixture into a 7×11-inch baking dish and use a pastry brush to coat the bottom evenly.
  6. Shape the dough: Transfer the risen dough to the prepared baking dish, spreading it to the edges. Use your fingers to create dimples across the surface of the dough.
  7. Score the dough: Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, make three equally spaced slices across the short side of the pan, then one slice lengthwise down the center to create 8 breadsticks in total.
  8. Season before baking: Brush the top of the breadsticks with 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Evenly sprinkle garlic powder and kosher salt over them.
  9. Bake: Bake the breadsticks for 18-20 minutes, until they turn golden brown and are cooked through.
  10. Add final touches and serve: Immediately brush the warm breadsticks with the remaining olive oil and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Serve warm.

Notes

  • The size of the breadsticks can be adjusted by using a different pan or changing the number of slices.
  • Ensure water temperature is between 110°-115°F to activate the yeast properly.
  • Use a well-greased pan or brush with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  • Serve breadsticks fresh and warm for best texture and flavor.
