4.6 from 53 reviews

Churro Saltine Toffee is a simple, addictive treat combining salty crackers baked with buttery toffee and topped with a sweet cinnamon sugar sprinkle, delivering a perfect balance of crunchy, sweet, and salty flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Crackers

  • 40 saltine crackers (approx. one standard sleeve)

Toffee Layer

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Topping

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking tray: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, then spread the saltine crackers in a single layer to cover the bottom completely.
  2. Make the toffee: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sugar together, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and begins to bubble. Pour the hot toffee evenly over the crackers, spreading gently with a spatula if needed to cover all crackers.
  3. Bake the crackers and toffee: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the toffee is bubbly and golden.
  4. Apply cinnamon sugar topping: While the toffee is still hot, combine the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the toffee-covered crackers.
  5. Cool and break: Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator until it hardens, about 1 hour. Once set, break into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • Use unsalted butter to better control the saltiness of this sweet and salty treat.
  • Be careful when handling hot toffee; it can cause burns.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature to keep crunchy.
  • For a chocolate twist, drizzle melted dark chocolate over the cooled toffee before breaking into pieces.
  • You can adjust the cinnamon sugar ratio to taste for more or less cinnamon flavor.
