Ingredients

Scale

Rim and Garnish

  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (coarse, such as turbinado or demerara)
  • 2 teaspoons chile-lime seasoning (such as Tajín Clásico Seasoning)
  • 1 wedge lime (or lime juice)
  • Mango wedges (sweetened and dried)

Shot Mixture

  • 4 ounces frozen mango chunks (about 1 cup)
  • 2 ounces mango-flavored orange juice (such as Simply Orange Juice with Mango)
  • 2 ounces tequila (silver, such as Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila)
  • ½ ounce agave nectar (such as Tres Agaves Organic Agave Nectar)
  • 3 tablespoons chamoy (such as Tajín Chamoy Mild Sauce)

Instructions

  1. Make the Tajín-Sugar Rim: On a shallow plate, combine the granulated sugar and chile-lime seasoning thoroughly. This mixture will be used to rim the shot glasses for a spicy-sweet flavor contrast.
  2. Prepare the Glass Rims: Dip the rim of each shot glass into lime juice or swipe a lime wedge around the rim to moisten it. Then, immediately dip the dampened rim into the prepared chile-lime sugar mixture, making sure the entire rim is evenly coated.
  3. Blend the Shot Mixture: In a blender or with a handheld immersion blender, combine the frozen mango chunks, mango-flavored orange juice, tequila, and agave nectar. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and well incorporated.
  4. Assemble the Shots: Drizzle about 2 teaspoons of chamoy along the inside of each prepared shot glass. Fill the glass immediately with the blended mango mixture to showcase the vibrant flavors.
  5. Garnish: For a finishing touch, run a lime wedge along a piece of sweetened, dried mango, dip it into the chile-lime seasoning, and place it on the edge of the shot glass as an edible garnish.

Notes

  • Use silver tequila for the best flavor balance, but blanco tequila is also suitable.
  • If mango-flavored orange juice is unavailable, substitute with regular orange juice and add a little extra mango puree or syrup.
  • Chamoy adds a unique sweet, salty, and spicy flavor, but can be adjusted according to your heat preference.
  • To keep shots chilled, prepare the mango mixture ahead and chill it in the refrigerator before blending.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit tequila and add extra mango juice or sparkling water.
